ARTIST’S CALL OUTS

La Loteria de la Representacion

A reinvisioning of La Loteria cards to portray and to inspire the future Hispanic, Latinx, Chicano/a, and Afro-Latinx community.

For the month of September of 2021 we will be celebrating Hispanic heritage by reinvisioning La Loteria cards that portray Mexicanos in various underrepresented professions. This is meant to inspire not only the Mexican community, but all hispanic, Latinx, Chicano/a, and Afro latinx in professions that lack diversity. Only in seeing what we can achieve, can we be inspired for the future.

La Lotería is the “Mexican bingo”, instead of calling out letters and numbers, the announcer calls out the image of the card that is chosen. Game boards are marked with beans or pennies. Once a player’s game board is filled, he or she shouts “Lotería!”

Artists are invited to be a part of this art exhibition by creating their own Loteria card. As artists, we have the gift and power to move, to promote discussion, to provoke thought, to question, to challenge. Let’s use this voice.

Due to limited space only 2 dimensional art such as paintings or photography will be accepted. Pieces must be no larger than 4ft. Limited edition giclees/prints will be accepted.

UNMASKED

For the month of October 2021 we will be having a cathartic show.

The pandemic of 2020 introduced the mask which was meant to protect not only ourselves but also others. The mask that was meant to protect, unmasked deeply rooted sentiments: racism, oppression, fear, insecurity, doubt, denial, repression, anger, --- you get picture, right?

Artists are invited to be a part of this art exhibition by creating art that includes a mask. As artists, we have the gift and power to move, to promote discussion, to provoke critical thinking, and to challenge; let us use that voice!

Art can be 2 dimensional, 3 dimensional, photography, but it must contain a mask in some form. Pieces must be no larger than 4ft. Limited edition giclees/prints will be accepted.
